location:
Chanhassen, Minnesota
project characteristics:
This setting is an elegant, cobble-textured, new interlocking paver
driveway, integrating a cobble circle-pattern “courtyard zone”, between driveway and front door. The design concept with
this entry courtyard was to scale the driveway into a more pedestrian feeling area. (To avoid the “ocean of asphalt” that cheapens
the front view of so many beautiful homes!) This circle-pattern courtyard leads a visitor down the new front walk to a new entry
steps and landing. Our curving and circular motif takes its cue from the Architect's striking, arched front door and eyebrow
window detail above. Although the house was new construction, during the first year, the builder’s concrete walk had already
sunken and cracked - removal was necessary and interlocking pavers were selected as the material of choice. The new setting
is warm, graceful, and welcoming -- and architecturally appropriate to this charming, elegant, front entry area.
